THE SHORT POEM
I'm offering a weekend poetry workshop November 7-8, in hope of great catharsis through your poetry! We will meet for three hours on each day, from 10-1. I will offer poems of others as inspiration and prompts to stimulate.
There will be discussion of poems, and the sharing of your thoughts with emphasis on the craft of one another's poems. The workshop will focus on short poems where we will look at the triolet and tanka, as well as forms and poetry by Robert Herrick, Emily Dickinson, Margaret Atwood, and others.
The cost for the two days is $100.00.
I hope you'll join me as we enter into the cooling days when hibernation of so many earthly fascinating creatures we share the earth with is underway, when the earth itself quiets into its own.
Poets Veronica Golos and Catherine Strisik are at it again now co-teaching through Zoom during the Taos Writer’s Conference.
We will begin as one group then break out into two small groups where your poems will be opened and set free, and celebrated! Yes, this is possible on Zoom because of Breakout Sessions. You will have the opportunity to work with each of us, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon in your small groups. We will gather as one group at the end of the day to continue to break our way out!
Here’s an opening line and window: I looked like someone else;
Exercises and other prompts will be sent to you prior to the workshop.
We will offer the workshop for a minimum of eight and maximum of ten.
Friday July 24 9:00-3:30
Beginning April 13-14, 2020 and ongoing weekly through May will be poetry workshops on craft of poetry, and also will be generative writing workshop that includes the study and discussion of contemporary poetry/poets. We will meet through Zoom in private settings. Please send me an inquiry.

Music and Food in Poetry
Over the course of this seven-week poetry workshop, we will discover the landscape of camouflaged music in poetry, and explore through food in poetry, our relationships to family, culture, and earth.
This workshop will explore the variations of how poetic forms describe and express.
The workshop will be a generative one, as well as emphasizing craft, and specific and careful word choices, and how and why poetry elicits reactions. My wish is to meet you wherever you are as a poet, and guide towards writing more finished poems, therefore inviting you even more so into this community of poets.

"Poetry can be a mysterious creature. As a sensuous poet, Cathy Strisik knows well how to invite verse out into vulnerable openings--sun filled clearings of meadows and streams. As a gifted teacher, she shares wisdom on the way to poetry's dwelling place. I study--a lot--with many poets. Cathy is among the best. I will continue to study with her every chance I can."
